Dr. Indraneel Datta
MD, MSc (HEPM), FRCSC
Dr. Neel Datta is a co-founder of Roxboro Clinic and a General and Colorectal Surgeon with a career spanning clinical practice, health policy, and medical education. He completed his medical degree at the University of Calgary in 2004 — graduating as class president — followed by his residency in General Surgery at the University of Calgary in 2009. He went on to complete a Master of Science in Health Economics, Policy and Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Datta is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Oncology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and has held a range of leadership roles throughout his career, including Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Calgary and Director of Workforce Strategy for the Department of Surgery at Alberta Health Services. He is also a Co-Director of Evidence-Based Reviews in Surgery, an international collaborative journal club for surgeons, and his research has been supported by the Canadian Thoracic Surgery Society, the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, and Alberta Health Innovates.
In 2022, Dr. Datta co-founded the Southern Alberta Surgical Center, a surgical health network that includes Rideau Clinic and the Breast Health Clinic at SASC. His work across clinical practice, health economics, and system design has given him a broad perspective on where the healthcare system succeeds, where it falls short, and how private, proactive care models can meaningfully extend what patients experience through the public system.
At Roxboro Clinic, Dr. Datta's focus is on building a thoughtful, structured approach to preventative health — one that draws on decades of surgical and system-level experience to help patients identify risk early, make informed decisions, and stay well. He believes the future of primary care lies in stronger physician-patient partnerships and in coordinated, evidence-based planning that supports long-term health outcomes.
